You might need to lead your group through a painful process of shedding a beloved service, raising dues, changing mission, or massively restructuring your organization. That will take a strong spine, a lot of resolve, and a thick skin in the face of criticism and emotional criticisms. But, you still have a responsibility to tackle these difficult challenges with sensitivity toward those affected. You need to include them in the conversation, address their fears, and show that you have concern about the impact on them.

That reporter is going to be watching your every move at the conference to see if the money we’re spending to send you there is being used wisely. Did you go to sessions? Participate? Represent our college appropriately? Gather ideas? If you’re lucky enough to get the opportunity to travel to represent your school and members at a leadership conference, then you need to treat it like a job, and do it remarkably.
