Are you giving middle-third members what they want?

The single biggest mistake that top-third student leaders make is thinking that all members are motivated by the same things that motivate them. While you get excited about winning, recognition and status – your middle members care much more about balance, harmony, fellowship and choice. If you don’t give them these things, their commitment is at risk.

I would argue that being a student leader who intentionally connects with his or her community is pretty damn cool. Buy the book, get off your smart phone and look someone in the eye. It might just change everything.

Team members get tired of Shiny Guy

When you’re the star of your student leadership team, you earn attention and accolades from the community. You get the awards, and you earn the successes. So, why are some of your teammates hoping you fall on your face? Sometimes the star of the team has to work harder than anyone at being a humble, approachable, caring team member.
